DISCUSSIONS ABOUT FINDING AND ACQUIRING ELECTRONICS PARTS

Thought it would be helpful to have an electronics page where I could put messages about finding parts for any kind of electronics devices for construction, or refurburbishing projects I may be interested in working on and, also, messages for other electronics hobbyists who are looking for electronic parts for computers, ham radios and components, electronic gadgets and components, etc. and most any electronic thing anybody may be working on including repair, refurbishing, experimental projects, etc.

Thought I might use the page for a little bit of electronics history. I would like to list some of the electronics equipment I have owned or built and it will help me to remember the elctronics past.

My list of electronic equipment goes all the way back to my high school days. Do your member the radio and tv shops on Craghead Street. There was Jones Radio Service, Morrow Radio & TV Service and there was Womack's Radio Supply Co. Booker and Wimmer was there in the Court Street area. There was McDowell's Radio and TV Service on South Main Street and Thomasson RAdio and TV Service at the top of Park Avenue. Avery Johnson had a TV Service on Kemper Road at one time and then he worked up in New Town next to the Chicken Cafe with James Rhodes.

Well here is a list of some of the equipment I built or owned. 1. Corpening Special - This device was a freepoint tube tester, tube filament welder, tube short tester and breaker combined. I don't know what happended to that device. I might have left it at 14 West Main Ext. when we moved to Howeland Circle. 2. I bought two Pentron tape recorders at Womack at differnt times. Before I left Danvill going to VPI I left one of them at Thomasson's Radio and TV Repair Service and never went back to pick it up. I had a Silvertone Wire recorder before I bought my Pentron magnetic tape recorder.

Heathkit preamp and Williamson circuit hif fi amplifier. I built that preamp and amplifier. You may rember it was the heatkit preamp that had four small knobs on the left side and Two big knobs on the Right side. It has the a rotary switch that changed equilization curves like th RIAA and AES I believe the Williamson amplifier had Kt66 output tubes. I also ordered an Electrovoice SP12 speaker and put in a KLipsch type corner enclosure called a Rebel II. I varnished the enclosure myself. My first turntable-changer was a Garrard RC80

I built a Heathkit Oscilloscope, A Heathkit Rf signal generator, and a Heathkit tube checker. I later acquire a Precision Apparatus VOM and a PRecision Apparatus Signal Generator

In the sixties I built a Lafayette AM/FM tuner. I worked on it while I was in the Air Force and got some help to finish building it. When I was in the Air Force I bought a Garrard turntable with a Fairchild arm and I think it had a Pickering cartridge. I later bought a Thorens TD124 tuntable with a Grado arm and cardridge. I also later bought a Grado arm for the Garrard turntable. I bought a C20 Mcintosh amplifier and a Fairchild amplifier. I bought a mono Mcintosh integrated amplifier. I later bought a McIntosh 275 tube type power amplfier. I bought a couple of A.E.S book shelf size speakers and then I bought that JBL "Hartsfield" speaker system.

Some stereo equipment I bought in the late sixties included two McIntosh 6100 integrated preamp-ampliers. I also bought a McIntosh 2105 solid state power amplifier. I bought two advent speakers and later a pair of Mach one speakers and later a pair of McIntosh speakers. I bought a Bang & Olfuson turntable and a Panasonic programmable turntable and a Pioneer magnetic tape recorder with 10 1/2 reels. I bought an Ortofon arm and cartridge for my Thorens TD124 turntable after the Grado arm and cartridge. I bought a Soundcraftsman Equalizer.

Some of the ham radio equipment I bought after I got my license in 1975 includer a portable tube type two meter xcvr and a great big tube type 2 meter receiver in a big metal cabinet. Both those 2 meter rigs were previously owned by Doug Motley. I then bought a Heathkit 2 meter solid statre xcvr from Dalton Taylor and also a Heathkit DX60 lo band xcvr for CW use. I then bought an Icom 22a and Icom 28a rigs and then I bought an Icom 202 (the one Doug Motley has now). I later bough a Clegg 2 meter rig at a hamfest. I have had two ICOM all mode 221 transceivers. I paid about $500 each for those. I bought an Swann 500CX and Swann 700CX and a Yaesu FT101e low band rigs. I bought a Globe King Tube type low band rig and a Collins short wave receiver. I bought a VHF tube type 2 meter rig (Prog Line)with the Air Force Mars frequencies from "Big Mac" in Lychburg. I don't know what ever happened to that rig. It might have gotten stolen.

I will resume talking about all the electronic equipment I have owned and/or built later
