ALTON'S ORCHESTRAL AND PHILHARMONIA OF GREENSBORO COMMENTS PAGE
COMMENTS AND INFORMATION POSTED BY ALTON RELATING TO ORCHESTRAS,
THE PHILHARMONIA OF GREENSBORO, ORCHESTRAL LITERATURE AND REPERTOIRE
AND PROGRAMS FOR CONCERTS
Thought it would be a good idea to have a page for Alton to make comments
about orchestral literature that he especially likes and his ideas as to
what would be good orchestral programs for concerts in Greensboro and area
and other areas. And also have an Orchestral and Philharmonia of Greensboro
comments page for Alton's comments and information about PG schedules
for rehearsals, concerts, trips, and other activities.
Also, I will use this page for information about my plans and situation
relating to my attendance at Philharmonia of Greensboro
rehearsals, concerts, trips,
and other activities as well as any other orchestra or orchestra project
I may be participating in or working on.

I think the LISZT PIANO CONCERTO NO 2 IN A MAJOR was an
excellent selection for the Philharmonia to do this fall.
Also I am really curious about that BAWIR PIANO MOVEMENTS
FROM SYMPHONY OF THE AGES and looking forward to learning
about it. I'm also looking forward to hearing Belgian
Pianist Patrick Deheur perform those selections.
It is interesting that Russian Pianist Vladamir Mischauk
will be performing the Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto No.
2 in G Major. That concerto is a less familiar one
than the Tschaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in Bb Minor.
So I am looking forward to learning more about that one and
playing in the orchestra next March.
My main suggestion for a symphont selection for
the Philharmonia to do is Schumann's Second Symphony.
I like the Scherzo of that Symphony.
Listen to this Scherzo
. Hope you like it
and will vote on performing this symphony sometime.
Maybe we could at least read it in one of our
reading rehearsals.
Another suggestion for a symphony selection for the
Philharmonia to do next year is Ralph Vaughan Williams'
"Antarctica Symphony." The RVW Sixth Symphony would be
good to do also. How about the Hindemith Symphony
in Eb
SPOKEN PRELUDE OF RVW "ANTARCTICA SYMPHONY"
INFORMATION ABOUT THE RVW SYMPHONIES
My main suggestion for a concerto selection for the
Philharmonid to do next year is Beethoven's Violin
Concerto or another one of the Paganini Violin Concertos
or a Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto or maybe the Sibelius
Violin Concerto.
What would be the problem with the Philharmonia performing
a symphony like the First Shostakovich Symphony. How about
Hindemith's Symphony in Eb or the Vaughan Williams
Sixth Symphony? How about a viola concerto like the
Berlioz Harold in Italy or the Bartok or Walton Viola
Concerto? How about a Shostakovich Piano Concerto?
How about a Wagner overture like the Flying Dutchman
Overture?
