Dr. Charles D. La Placa, Senior Pastor
The First Presbyterian Church of Danville was organized by two faithful saints, Mrs. Jane Thornton of New York City and Mr. James Ross, a native of Ireland, on the last day of 1826. First Church is the oldest congregation in the entire area. Meeting originally in the old Danville Academy, members later built a frame structure in 1827, to be succeeded by a brick building in 1853. In 1879 a new building was erected on Jefferson Street and occupied until the current structure was completed in 1912. Enlarged in 1925 and again in 1961, the church now is located at 937 Main Street in Danville, Virginia. It is, and has been, a house of God's people and continues to be a beacon of light in a troubled world. First Church is a growing congregation. All are invited to become a part of our fellowship and to become a part of our ministry and mission in Danville and throughout the world. |
