The Sof Sole team captured the men's team championship at the Sartomer 5k in Chatham on October 9
with a "perfect score" by taking the top five spots in the race. Pictured from left to right are
Tim Wray, Ronnie Ellington, Dale Ball, Vince Decker, and RJ Scott.

The team was recently created when Dale Ball made arrangements with his employer, Sof Sole,
to sponsor an all Masters team (age 40 and over) consisting of himself, Decker, Scott, and Wray.
Ronnie was a late non-masters addition (he’s in his early 30s) to the team when it was learned
that the Chatham race required five team members. It was a bit of a surprise to see the
Sof Sole team make it a 1 2 3 4 5 sweep in its inaugural competition.
Dale Ball was 1st 17:45, Vince Decker 2nd 17:57, RJ Scott 3rd 18:24, Tim Wray 4th 18:43,
and Ronnie Ellington finished 5th 18:51.

The 2K run will start at Angler’s Park end of the River Walk Trail and go up river to the point where the trail narrows between two trees where the trail has white painted shoulders. That is the turn around for the 2K run. The 10K bike course is entirely on hard surface roads. It will start from the Anglers Park parking lot with 1 and 3/4 clockwise laps on the Riverwalk Trail LOOP, then go up the steep hill on Northside Dr. Turn right onto Stinson Dr toward the airport. Here is how this year’s course is different from last year’ course. Turn around at the corner of Stinson Dr and Airport Dr. From returning on Stinson Dr, turn right onto Slayton Dr toward the Institute. Turn around at bottom end of Slayton Dr and return on Slayton Dr to Stinson Dr. Turn right onto Stinson Dr. Race ends about 80 yards past Northside Dr at the 30 MPR sign on Stinson Dr. Unlike 2003, this year’s course does NOT include the cul-de-sac on Stinson Dr. After the Race the bikers will go down the steep hill at a slow and safe rate to the refreshments in the Angler’s Park parking lot. There will be no entry fee, no prizes, and it will be open to the public. Those who want to run, but not bike, may do so. Those who want to do the 10K bike race must run the 2K race immediately prior.

Everyone who enters the VIR 5K race on Saturday Sept 4 will receive a free admission to the auto races at VIR on entrant’s choice of Fri Sept 3, Sat Sept 4, or Sun Sept 5. Please add your choice to the entry form if you mail it in ahead of race day. Race day entrants will recieve a ticket to Sun Sept 5 VIR auto races.

March 20th Shamrock 5K - 10am - River Walk Trail - Danville, Va. (Robert Beecy 799-5833 and 791-4470)

Same course as last year. This race is ENTIRELY on the Riverwalk Trail. NONE of this race is on Danville City Streets.

April 24th Shoestring Start-Up 5K- 10AM Danville DCC College Entrepreneur Org (Vince Decker 349-1966)

Start is approximately at the junction of the sidewalk going to the ball field and Hill Building with the curb of Nethery Lane. With your back to Kemper Road, start running on Nethery Lane down hill which curves to the right then to the left. Turn right onto College Park Drive down hill. At the next right, turn right onto Taylor Drive and immediately do another right turn onto Bonner Avenue. This is really a 180 degree right turn. Go uphill on Bonner Avenue. Turn right into the very large DCC parking lot. Run through campus to start line and run this course a second time. This race is 2 total laps for everyone.

May 15th Nestle 5K - 9am - Festival in the Park (Ballou Park) - Danville Va. (Lewis Dumont 792-2215)

Same course as last year. Start/Finish on W Main at Ballou Park, go around Sutherlin Musium & return
